Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah lashed out at Prime Minister Narendra Modi after the latter’s speech where he alleged that the Karnataka government was a corruption tank with a pipeline going directly to New Delhi.

Taking to Twitter while the PM was still delivering his speech and praising former state Chief Minister BS Yeddyurappa, who was arrested on charges of corruption, Siddaramaiah said, “Sir, your CM took a bribe in cheque.”

The Chief Minister went on to call G Janardhana Reddy the prime minister’s ‘friend’. “One of your Reddy friends G Janardhana Reddy conducted Rs 500 Cr wedding for his daughter at the height of demonetization,” he tweeted.

Hitting out at BJP President Amit Shah, Siddaramaiah added that his son Jay’s company had witnessed a 16,000 revenue growth in two years.

Continuing his tirade against the PM, Siddaramaiah asked him to talk about something that was relevant to the people of Karnataka. “Why is diesel & petrol so expensive when international crude oil prices are half of what they used to be before 2014? Instead of advising the youth to sell pakodas why don’t you focus on job creation? Why don’t you intervene in Mahadayi  and call a meeting of three CMs? Why don’t call a meeting of all CMs & discuss the ToRs for 15th Finance Commission? Instead of politicising the issue of lakes why don’t you help us with funds & expertise?” the CM said.

Earlier, PM Modi had mounted a scathing attack on the Congress over corruption, and asserted it will become "Punjab, Puducherry, Parivar" Congress after its defeat in the Karnataka Assembly polls.

With the D-day for the polls drawing closer, Modi upped the ante against the Siddaramaiah government, alleging it has become a "corruption tank" for the Congress with a pipeline connected to Delhi, "where the money reaches directly".

He also accused the top Congress leadership of auctioning tickets, party positions and even the chief minister's post.

He accused the Congress of "auctioning" party tickets and posts, and recalled how a string of scams rocked the erstwhile UPA government.

Siddaramaiah was once again in Modi's line of fire, with the prime minister calling his government "seedha rupaiah sarkar" (government that takes bribe).
