Responding to scepticism over the Indian Air Force (IAF) attacks on a terror camp in Pakistan, External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj questioned if the Indian military should concentrate on executing missions or counting dead bodies.

Swaraj and BJP leaders including, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, indicated they would use the Narendra Modi government's response to the Pulwama terror attack as a strong pitch to seek votes in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.

Swaraj questioned if military personnel should execute their missions or "bring back dead bodies." This was in response to questions being raised about mortalities in the air-strikes conducted by the IAF in February at a Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) terror camp at Balakot.

"Please think before you vote," said Swaraj, while speaking at a convention of the BJP's women workers in Mumbai on Sunday, asking if those "who seek evidence of bravery from the Army" should be voted for.

"Do those supporting separatists in Jammu and Kashmir deserve your votes? Do those who ask questions and pull down the morale of the Army after its valorous strike deserve your votes? Should you vote for those who ask rude questions to the Army about whether they went to fight or uproot trees?" questioned Swaraj, adding that the party will produce a booklet detailing it's response to the issues.

She called on people to vote PM Modi back to power with a larger mandate "as the country is safe in his hands."

Fadnavis said that the government's action at Balakot had brought it in league with countries such as the United States and Israel, and added that this contrasted with the response of the erstwhile Congress-led UPA regime after the 26/11 terror attacks in Mumbai in 2008.

"Our Army had this strength and courage. But, the politicians had no guts to seek revenge for the martyrdom of our jawans. Modi has this courage. Hence, this is a new India," he claimed.

BJP Mumbai unit chief Ashish Shelar lashed out at MNS chief Raj Thackeray, who attacked the Modi regime and questioned its narrative over the surgical strikes. Without naming Raj, Shelar said he did not have the 'aukat' (stature) to attack Modi. Fadnavis too charged that Raj was acting at the behest of NCP chief Sharad Pawar.
