A footwear was hurled by a person while All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) leader, Asaduddin Owaisi was addressing a rally at the Nagpada Junction on Tuesday. Owaisi's "Save Shariat" rally was to seek support of the community against what he called the targeting of Shariah and Muslim personal law.

Agitated supporters tried to catch hold of the thrower, but he managed to escape. Police tried to pacify the crowd saying that they will nab him with help of CCTV footage.

The gathering had Muslim intellectuals and clerics in which Owaisi was addressing on the recent developments on triple talaq. Owaisi appealed Muslims to unite against this effort and said that Muslims needed to elect some people who could take up only their issues in the elected bodies.

"Muslim Mahilaon ko insaaf dena to bahana hai, Shariat nishana hai (Giving justice to Muslim women is an excuse and targeting Shariah is the real aim). No matter which denomination you belong to, Shariah is common, there can be differences in interpretation. BJP and RSS want a Muslim and Dalit free India," said Owaisi.

Owaisi challenged that prime minister Narendra Modi give seven percent reservation to Muslim women, bring in law to give them Rs 15,000 as compensation when divorced if he was really looking to help them and questioned the Bill to criminalize triple talaq when triple talaq was dissolved.

"A case has been registered in this matter in Nagpada police station and the police are on the lookout of the accused. A black shoe was thrown at Owaisi," said Virendra Mishra, deputy commissioner of police, zone 3.
