Delhi police have registered 1,493 cases of rape and 3,237 of molestation till November this year, said Minister of State for Home Mullappally Ramachandran in Lok Sabha on Tuesday.
In 2012, Delhi police had registered 706 rape cases and 727 molestation cases, while resolved 661 and 693 cases of rape and molestation respectively.
Out of 1493 rape and 3,237 molestation cases, Delhi Police have been able to work out 1317 and 2781 cases respectively this year.
Besides that, 852 cases of eve-teasing were registered this year against 236 cases last year.
He said Delhi Police also solved 13 murder cases out of 16 involving senior citizens.
In 2012, 19 senior citizens were murdered and out of those 13 cases were solved by police. Thirteen cases of robbery, 23 cases of hurt and three cases of rape were registered by Delhi Police under the category of crime committed against senior citizens in 2013.
Police received 898 calls on women helpline number while 454 calls on senior citizen number till November this year.
In a reply to a query regarding steps taken by the government to clear unsolved cases, Ramachandran said Delhi Police have been working ceaselessly for ensuring the safety of women and senior citizens and take quick and concrete steps to work out all unsolved cases, arrest the accused and chargesheet them in the shortest possible time.
