Sources in DoPT say the charges against Verma are serious in nature.
The Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) indicted ousted Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) chief Alok Verma on three counts on Tuesday and served him the relevant charge sheets. Sources in DoPT say the charges against Verma are serious in nature.
The DoPT has indicted Verma for stopping his junior, Rakesh Asthana (when he served as Special Director) from mentioning Rakesh Saxena, the then IRCTC (Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation) director as an accused in the IRCTC Hotel Tender scam. Verma has also been charged with deliberately weakening the case against RJD leader Lalu Prasad Yadav in the same scam. DoPT is also investigating the role of Verma in removing Ahluwalia Contracts from the list of accused, as he was close to the Ahluwalia family.
Verma has also been chargesheeted in the Rajiv Singh case. There is a case against the IPS officer, who served as CBI's joint director, for submitting false documents to Allahabad Bank while standing as guarantor for his brother Sanjay Singh's loan application. Verma stands accused of ignoring this and not taking action against Rajiv.
Verma has also indicted for nepotism while allegedly favouring the induction of officers RP Upadhyay and Rajeev Krishna, even though internal inquiries had reportedly revealed "adverse conduct" and "integrity issues" with each respectively. Upadhyay is currently the Special Commissioner of Police and in charge of the Law and Order situation in Delhi. Krishna is posted in Uttar Pradesh.

- Alok Verma has been indicted removing some names from the list of accused in the IRCTC Hotel Tender scam
- He has also been indicted for ignoring the false documents submitted by another CBI officer to Allahabad Bank
- Verma has also indicted for favouring induction of two officers, who were given unfavourable reports by an internal inquiry
