A 56-year-old employee from BMC-run Sewri TB hospital died on Friday due to drug-resistant TB. He had gone on a long leave and was admitted to the hospital only after he turned critical. He succumbed a day later.
Hospital employees said he was the fourth staffer to die in the past one year. BMC officials said 42 employees of Sewri TB hospital have died since 2005.
The employee was suffering from a co-morbid condition of diabetes and was first diagnosed with TB in 2003. He suffered a relapse in October 2013. A doctor in the hospital said that the employee had missed taking his medication and was not regular in seeking treatment.
