Saradha scam: Manoranjana Sinh remanded to five days police custody

Former minister Matang Sinh's estranged wife Manoranjana Sinh was remanded to five days of police custody till October 13 on Thursday. 

Sinh was produced at the CBI Special Court in Alipore after she was arrested by the agency on Wednesday in connection with the multi-crore Saradha chit fund scam. 

The agency arrested Sinh for allegedly taking money from Sudipta Sen, Saradha Group chairman by threatening him. Charges of misappropriation of funds, cheating and criminal conspiracy were slapped against her. 

Besides Sinh, industrialist Shantanu Ghosh was remanded to five days of police custody till October 13 on the same day. 

The Central Board of Investigation (CBI) had earlier carried out searches in 19 locations in West Bengal and Odisha in connection with the multi-crore chit fund scam.

Other than CBI, Enforcement Directorate ( ED) and Income Tax department are probing the infamous Saradha chit fund scam of West Bengal in which people were duped of at least Rs 2,500 crore worth investments.
