Ryan student murder | Bus conductor given clean chit in CBI chargesheet

The CBI on Monday filed a chargesheet where they have acquitted the bus conductor, who was arrested on charges of murdering Pradyuman Thakur.

In its chargesheet, the CBI has said that the fingerprints at the scene of the crime matched with the juvenile, the main accused in the case. The juvenile will be tried as an adult in this case.

The CBI has told the court that the bus conductor identified as Ashok Kumar be acquitted of all charges levied against him.

Earlier, the CBI had opposed the bail plea of the 16-year-old, saying the recent Juvenile Justice Board (JJB) order to try him as an adult "speaks about his mental status and the heinous crime he committed".

The agency sought dismissal of the bail plea on the ground that the Juvenile Justice Board (JJB) had passed a very reasonable order denying statutory bail to the student, accused of killing seven-year- old Pradyuman Thakur.

In November, Ashok was granted bail by a Gurugram court citing ‘lack of evidence’.

"The bail was granted under Article 21 of the Indian Constitution, which states that everyone has the right to personal liberty and life," said Advocate Anil Sharma, who was present in the court on behalf of Ashok's lawyer Mohit Verma.

At the time, Ashok Kumar's lawyer said he was waiting for the chargesheet prepared by the city police's Special Investigation Team to defend his client.

The lawyer, Mohit Verma, told PTI that the charges leveled against his client by the SIT need to be examined point-wise in order to defend the case.

A class 2 student, Pradhuman Thakur, was found dead in a school toilet with his throat slit on September 8. The schoolbus conductor was arrested the same day for allegedly killing the child.
