After the Swadeshi Jagran Manch (SJM), another RSS affiliate, the Bharatiya Mazdoor Sangh (BMS), is questioning the functioning of the NITI Aayog.

The BMS is planning to adopt a resolution on the NITI Aayog at the meeting of its top decision making body to be held in Kanpur from May 22 to 24.

“We want the functioning and composition of the NITI Aayog to be reviewed,” said BMS general secretary Vrijesh Upadhyay. The BMS thinks that NITI Aayog lacked connection with ground reality.

The NITI Aayog had faced criticism earlier this year from the SJM, the economic arm of the RSS, which is the BJP’s ideological mentor. The SJM had expressed concerns that the NITI Aayog had failed to fill the lacunae of the Planning Commission to address the concerns of the poor. The SJM said the NITI Aayog had not consulted farmers on the GM seeds issue.

The BMS, which is criticising the panel on similar lines, will hold a seminar on development policy of India for which it is inviting economists. The trade union wing has been opposing disinvestment of public sector undertakings (PSUs) and labour reforms. “None of the governments have been able to address unemployment and poverty,” said Upadhyay.

A discussion will also be held on the fourth generation industrial revolution and the Robotic Age. “Unemployment will only increase with this. It’s a matter of concern for India,” he said.

Besides this, the BMS will also be discussing climate change and technology upgradation at the meet to be inaugurated by Labour Minister Bandaru Dattatreya.

In January, the SJM said that NITI Aayog had not met the expectation of making economic planning more indigenous.
