Political parties have reacted cautiously to RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat’s  clarion call to “build Ram Mandir in whatever way possible” even if it requires “an ordinance”, thus forcing political parties to take a stand.

Bihar chief minister Nitish Kumar’s JDU, an ally of the BJP, however, sought to play cautious as it advised the RSS chief to wait for the court’s verdict.  “It is for the Supreme Court to decide. Alternatively, Hindus and Muslims can settle it through talks,” said JDU spokesperson, K C Tyagi.

Convenor of Babri Masjid Action Committee, Zafaryab Jilani said Bhagwat is trying to influence the court but I am sure he will not succeed.

While central leadership of Congress maintained a cautious distance, its Uttar Pradesh unit and Samajwadi party termed Bhagwat’s call a usual “political ploy” that RSS and BJP use before any big election.

Congress spokesman Anshu Awasthi said it was now an open secret that whenever the RSS and the BJP speak about Lord Ram it should be understood that elections are around the corner.

Samajwadi Party spokesman Rajendra Chaudhary termed RSS chief’s call a political statement before the upcoming elections.
