In conversation with Zee 24 Taas, NCP MP Supriya Sule revealed how Aaba, as RR Patil was fondly called, was always concerned about his family.
Nationalist Congress Party leader RR Patil, who succumbed to oral cancer on February 16, was unable to speak in his last days, but wrote the word 'aai' before he breathed his last.
In conversation with Zee 24 Taas, NCP MP Supriya Sule revealed how Aaba, as he was fondly called, was concerned about his family and wrote 'aai', referring to his mother.
"I was constantly with him and his family in the last few days. I often took Aaba's mother with me to the ICU. He couldn't speak in his last days and would generally write. When he asked me if I had had tea, I told him I would do so when he would be healthy enough to sit up and offer it himself. He only smiled at me and then wrote the word 'aai' on a piece of paper asking about his mother. That was the last word he wrote," Sule told Zee 24 Taas.
She also revealed how RR wished his daughter a happy birthday through the written word and also asked nurses to gift her a chocolate when he was hospitalised. "He wrote to the nurse telling her he didn't have any money with him at that moment and requested her to gift his daughter a Rs 2 chocolate on his behalf, promising to return the money once he got better," Sule revealed.
Sule said she was present in the ICU when RR breathed his last and it was a sight she would never forget. "It was heart wrenching to lose a leader like him to oral cancer that was caused due to tobacco. We will not talk about who his political heir will be. The election will happen and we shall talk to his family about it. But what we have definitely planned is an awareness drive against tobacco and the oral cancer caused by it. On March 12, on the occasion of Yeshwantrao Chavan's birth anniversary, we will start a massive campaign against tobacco and its ill effects. My brother Ajit had announced a ban on 'jarda' and 'gutkha' when he was the deputy chief minister. We will take this campaign beyond politics," Sule vowed.
