Ram Navami: TMC-BJP face-off in Bengal, disturbances reported from Birbhum, Burdwan

West Bengal is gearing up for high-voltage face-off between ruling TMC and the Sangh Parivar with BJP in the front. And already, sporadic violence has been reported from two places in Bengal. VHP has planned over 500 rallies in Bengal and to counter that, for the first time, TMC will also take part in Ram Navami celebrations. 

In Burdwan, a Ram Navami temple set up by BJP was attacked least 4 people were injured, according to ANI . BJP has accused ruling TMC was behind the incident. Police is currently probing the incident. 

According to Zee 24 Ghanta, in run-up to Ram Navami, disturbances have been reported from Birbhum district's Nalhati. Police has imposed a ban on armed procession, which lead to unrest in the region. Irate locals started vandalising and police had to resort to lathicharge to bring the situation under control.  After this incident, authorities  have increased security in Birbhum to avert any law and order problem. Top police officials are stationed to keep situation under check. 

BJP state President Dilip Ghosh has said that they will not cow down to administration's pressure and will bring out Ram Navami rallies. Ghosh and other senior leaders will lead rallies in several part of the state. State Minister Partha Chatterjee has warned that strict action will be taken against anyone breaking law and order in the state during the festival. BJP wants to do armed procession and the state is unwilling to allow it, which is likely to be a major flashpoint today.
