Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi will hold road shows in various parts of Uttar Pradesh in order to woo voters for his party in view of the upcoming general elections in the nation due in May.

According to the President, District Congress Committee, Praja Nath Sharma, after landing at the helipad near the police line, Gandhi will visit neighbouring cities where he will address public rallies and thereafter will go to end the Sadhbhavna rally started by the Youth Congress along with members of the Congress committee.

Gandhi, then, will talk to rickshaw pullers in Benaras city from where he will head back to Delhi.

Superintendent of police, Varanasi, Rahul Raj, said that they have taken all possible measures regarding security for Gandhi's visit.

"He is going to speak to rickshaw pullers here. We have secured that entire area. Barricading is done. Proper security will be taken care of. The temple area is already a secured zone. Our force will be there and he will be secured wherever he goes," said he.

Earlier, at an interactive session with women in Lucknow on Friday he met women activists, and shared their view that states where women are suppressed can never progress.

Rickshaw puller, Mangluram, said that he expected a lot from Gandhi's visit and hoped that this time their demands would be fulfilled before the elections.

"We expect a lot. We will see if Rahul Gandhi fulfils our demand. We are facing a lot of problems. I am a rickshaw puller, everyone promises that they will do things for our betterment before the elections, but after the elections, no one does anything, "he said.

Since the commencement of Congress campaign for the elections due in May this year, Gandhi has been focusing primarily on bringing the fairer sex to the forefront.

Gandhi is trying to get Women's Reservation Bill passed in the Parliament. The Bill - if passed by parliament - will reserve one-third of seats for women at the national and state assemblies.
