Helpless before the circumstances they are born in, most of the children of the underprivileged families across the country don't get opportunities to study or think of a good future. These children are then forced to work from a tender age to feed themselves or their families.

A single visit to Jharsa village prompted Apnarnaa to come up with a non formal education centre, Radiant School in Gurgaon when she saw young kids from economically weaker sections of the society working as rag pickers without proper food, clothing, and education. The school set up in Gurgaon in 2012 by Eco Lib foundation, an NGO, presently caters to the specific education needs of around 120 children. Apnarnaa Laxmi, who has been single-handedly managing the school since the past two years in an old rented building in Jharsa village, has divided her students in four groups. “Blinking, Twinkling, glowing and Shining are the four groups that have been divided according to their age and skills,” she explains.

“Forget about the RTE Act, These young children do not even know what their fundamental rights are,” highlights Apnarnaa, Founding Secretary at EcoLib Foundation, NGO set up in 1996 in pursuit of providing non-formal education to such children.

At Radiant Kids, the kids are taught English, maths and computer skills apart from other skills such as art and crafts, yoga and karate. There are four full time teachers and the school operates between 3 pm to 6 pm. Working towards their motto, “Education is our Radiance”, Radiant Kids School also organises various educational visits for the underprivileged children in and around Gurgaon. As many of her students are migrants and labourers, Apnarnaa's NGO has even envisioned a 'Schools on Wheels’ programme, wherein an equipped bus would visit numerous construction sites in Gurgaon to deliver education to the child labourers who are unable to enroll in schools.
