The war of words between Rahul Gandhi and BJP's talking heads are only increasing by the day. And the latest to come in the crossfire is Noble-winning economist Paul Krugman.

On Monday, Rahul Gandhi attacked Modi government tweeting out a news article regarding Paul Krugman. He said, " The Nobel prize winning economist, Paul Krugman confirms what we’ve been saying for over two years now. Mass unemployment is the biggest threat India faces. Unfortunately, we have a PM who lives in denial. Afraid his"Acche Din" PR will take a beating."

BJP IT-Cell chief Amit Malviya then pointed out several instances when Krugman has got it wrong in the past. He said that Krugman couldn't predict the 2008 sub-prime crisis, Also in 2011, he erroneously predicted demise of the Euro, claimed Malviya. Also US Markets were robust after shock US election results, something Krugman didn't see coming.

Paul Krugman is an acclaimed economist who is currently a faculty in New York University and is a columnist for NYT. He got the Noble award in 2008  for his work in New Trade Theory and New Economic Geography. Significantly, Krugman is a student of Jagdish Bhagwati, who has praised PM Modi in the past.

“The rhetoric of a loser” is how senior BJP leader and Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman described Congress president Rahul Gandhi’s attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi, BJP, its president Amit Shah and RSS.
“It sounds like the rhetoric of a loser, devoid of substance. In a sheer display of brazenness, he accused the national president of BJP, against whom there is no case as he was cleared by the court. See how much of this rhetoric continues in these two days. The rhetoric of a loser is there in every statement he is making,” Sitharaman said.

This was in reference to Rahul’s attack on Shah over an alleged case of fake encounter in which he was given a clean chit. Sitharaman called the case “a conspiracy based on fraud” and deprecated Rahul for referring to it.
