An elderly woman and her grandson were knocked down by a speeding four-wheeler in a hit and run case in Kharadi area on Wednesday night. After knocking down the two and another victim, the car driver fled leaving his damaged car at the spot.

The incident took place near the Radisson Blu hotel at around 8 pm on Wednesday. The deceased identified as Shantabai Sahebrao Sonavane (61) and her grandson Nayan Ramesh Mokale were walking from the area when the car driver knocked them down. He also hit one more person who has sustained injuries and is currently undergoing treatment at a hospital.

Senior inspector Rajendra Mulik, in charge of Chandannagar Police Station said, "Sonavane and her grandson were going home and they were walking at the side of the road. When they came near the Radisson Blu hotel, a speeding car knocked them down. The car driver lost control of his vehicle and he knocked the pedestrians down as well as hit some vehicles."

The front right side of the car was badly damaged after the mishap and the driver left his car at the accident spot and ran away. The injured were rushed to a hospital but during the treatment, Sonavane and her grandson both succumbed to injuries.
