During Pune municipal elections earlier this year, he had predicted 92 seats for Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and he was ready to quit politics if his prediction goes wrong. His party went on to win 98 seats in PMC and now the same MP of BJP Sanjay Kakade has predicted that his party will not win enough number of seats in Gujarat election.

After the voting in Gujarat, most of the exit poll surveys have been predicting a victory for BJP but Kakade, the Rajya Sabha MP claimed that he has done his own survey in the state and according to the findings of his survey, the performance of his own party will be dismal.

Speaking to DNA, Kakade said, "I had sent a team of six people to Gujarat and they have covered mostly the rural part of the state. They have met farmers, labourers, waiters and drivers. According to their survey, the party is not getting enough number of seats to reach to majority. In fact, it is the Congress party who is likely to reach close to majority mark."

"The Patidar community has supported Congress, the Dalits are supporting Congress and Muslims have been traditionally voting Congress party. Therefore, nearly 70 percent of the population is with Congress party which is why I feel, Congress will win enough number of seats to reach close to majority," he said.

Kakade stated that he had made his own observations about the Gujarat election and  there was no mention of the topic of development by his party leaders in the last phase of the campaign. "During last few rallies, our leaders did not speak about the development. The rallies were mostly aimed at making emotional appeal to voters and targeting opposition," Kakade said.

He also stated that BJP was in power for 22 years and there was an air of negativity against the party. "Since independence, only communists have regained the power in West Bengal for a longer period of time. Apart from that, there is not a single party which has got the power for more than 25 years. At present there is negativity against the party in Gujarat. In spite of that negativity, if BJP wins the election, it will be because of only and only Narendra Modi," Kakade said.
