Protests in JNU after student goes missing

A first-year MSc Biotechnology student went missing from campus after he was reportedly beaten by some students inside Mahi Mandavi Hostel.

Students from Jawaharlal Nehru University gathered outside the campus's main gate late Sunday night demanding the administration immediately file a police case over a student of the university who allegedly went missing. According to the protesting students, Najeeb, a first-year MSc biotechnology student went missing from campus around 36 hours ago, after he was beaten by some students inside the Mahi Mandavi Hostel.

JNUSU President Mohit Pandey - who was reportedly present at the time - said that an ABVP student physically threatened and intimidated the student. Pandey further claimed that a group of goons hit the student in front of the warden and that the boy had been missing since then.

A statement by JNUSU said: “We demand the JNU administration immediately file an FIR. The Mahi Mandavi Hostel warden who himself was a witness to the incident must take stringent action in this regard to bring the culprits to task.”

Meanwhile, the student’s family has lodged a missing complaint and the University Procter has assured that ' the administration will look into the matter on Monday'.
