Protests erupt across Kashmir over Israeli offensive against Gaza; tear gas used on protestors

Several parts of Kashmir witnessed violent protests on Tuesday against the Israeli offensive in the Gaza Strip soon after the Eid-ul-Fitr prayers.

Protesters in the Eidgah area clashed with police officers, while police lathi-charged the demonstrators and also fired tear gas to disperse the crowd. Groups of youth indulged in stone-pelting at Hyderpora and Maulana Azad Road in Srinagar soon after the Eid prayers in these areas concluded. 

Reports of similar incidents were reported from Sopore town in Baramulla district, Janglat Mandi area of Anantnag district and Shopian town.

Law enforcing agencies fired several rounds of tear smoke shells to chase away the protesters, reports said, adding no one was injured in the incidents.

The rest of the valley has been peaceful so far with no untoward incident reported, they added.
