'Prima facie this was a radical killing': UP DGP OP Singh on Kamlesh Tiwari murder case, investigation underway

"We are working in collaboration with the Gujarat Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS), till now no link with any terrorist organisation has been established. We will look into all the details and take action," UP DGP OP Singh said.

Uttar Pradesh DGP, OP Singh on Saturday said that a joint team of UP and Gujarat Police has detained three persons who are being questioned in the Kamlesh Tiwari's murder case.

The three persons who have been detained are Maulana Mohsin Sheikh, Faizan, and Khurshid Ahmed Pathan. The DGP said two other accused were also detained but released later, they are being monitored.

"In the initial interrogation no criminal background of the three people, who have been detained, has been established yet. If needed, we will take them into remand, bring them to UP and question them," UP DGP said.

As the investigation is progressing in the Kamlesh Tiwari murder case, UP DGP said, "We are working in collaboration with the Gujarat Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS), till now no link with any terrorist organisation has been established. We will look into all the details and take action."

Speaking to media, OP Singh said, "Prima facie this was a radical killing, these people were radicalised by the speech that he (Kamlesh Tiwari) gave in 2015, but much more can come out when we catch hold of the remaining criminals."

"All the security arrangements were made, he (Kamlesh Tiwari) was given a gunner and a policeman, both were there with him. There was no laxity on the part of the police administration," DGP OP Singh while responding on security provided to the deceased leader.

Kamlesh Tiwari, a Hindu Samaj Party leader, and former Hindu Mahasabha member, succumbed to injuries after being attacked in his office in Lucknow on Friday.

A day after his alleged murder, his wife had registered a complaint against Maulana Anwarul Haq from Bijnor, who had announced a reward of Rs 51 lakh on the beheading of Kamlesh Tiwari.

In 2015, Maulana Anwarul Haq had allegedly announced a reward of Rs 51 lakh on the beheading of Kamlesh Tiwari.

After Tiwari's wife's complaint, the Lucknow police has registered an FIR against two Maulanas from Bijnor.

She has said in her complaint that these two had threatened to kill her husband in 2016.

Meanwhile, a Special Investigation Team (SIT) has been constituted to probe the Kamlesh Tiwari murder case.

SK Bhagat, IG Lucknow; Dinesh Puri, SP Crime Lucknow and PK Mishra, deputy SP STF, are part of the three-member SIT, who will probe Kamlesh Tiwari's death case.
