Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) chief Mohan Bhagwat has quashed all rumours and said that he is not in the 'not in race for President.''

Speaking to ANI, Bhagwat said, "Sangh mein kaam karte hain, humein wahan jana nahi. Prastav aata bhi hai toh swikar nahi karna." (I work for Sangh, I do not want to go there. Even if there is a proposal, I am not going to accept it).

He also went on add that the rumours making rounds in media won't come true. "Media mein jo chal raha hai, woh hoga nahi," he added.

Shiv Sena leader Sanjay Raut had on Tuesday put forth a suggestion that Bhagwat would be a good choice for President to make India a "Hindu Rashtra". "Somebody with a clean image should occupy it. We have heard that Mohan Bhagwat's name is being discussed for President. If India has to be made a 'Hindu Rashtra', Bhagwat will be a good choice for President," he had said.

According to reports, the names of Sushma Swaraj, Sumitra Mahajan and LK Advani are also being considered by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

Incumbent President Mukherjee is due to retire on July 24. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will host a dinner for all NDA MPs on Wednesday, a move aimed at seeking their support for the NDA Presidential candidate.

Born in Chandrapur in Vidarbha region of Maharashtra, Bhagwat, 66, has headed the RSS since March 2009.
