Army Chief General Dalbir Singh will present the Presidential Standard to 44 Armoured Regiment at a function at Suratgarh military station in Sri Ganganagar district, an official said today.

He will present the honour on behalf of the President of India on Wednesday.

"The Regiment will be bestowed with the Standard by the Army Chief for its over about three decades of meritorious and distinguished service to the nation," Defence Spokesperson Lt Col Manish Ojha said.

Raised in 1981, the regiment has participated in a large number of operations, including Operation Meghdoot, Operation Rakshak-II and Operation Parakram.

The frontline Armoured Regiment of the Army is presently operating along the western borders.

It has contributed a large numbers of Officers, Junior Commissioned Officers and other ranks to serve with the Rashtriya Rifles and Assam Rifles units deployed in the counter-insurgency grid, he said in a statement.

The event on February 25 will be attended by senior military officers and civil dignitaries during which the Army Chief will also release a Special Day Cover.
