City Crime Branch has found that tests done by medical staff of 108 helpline who were the first one to reach Vishwa Hindu Parishad leader Pravin Togadia had indicated there was nothing wrong with him. It has also found that the doctor of Chandrani Hospital where Togadia was taken to, was in touch with him for three hours before reached the hospital.

On January 15, at around 10.45 am two officers of Rajasthan police reached Togadia’s house to arrest him .As they didn’t find him, they went back after registering it in Sola police station. At around 11.08 am, Togadia left his office with Dhirubhai Kapuriya, one of the VHP members in an auto when his Static Z-Plus security guard asked him where he was going. He told he will be back in 15 minutes and left without any security. CCTV footage shows Togadia entering house of Ghansham Charandas, another VHP member.

Both switched off their cellphones by 2 pm. At around 7.52 pm Charandas called his driver Nikul Rabari, a resident of Sanad and they reached near Kotarpur Water Works at around 8.33 pm. Charandas then called 108 helpline using Nikul’s mobile and told them an unidentified lying on the road and his ill health.

When the team reached the spot, Charandas insisted Togadia be taken to Chandrani Hospital and didn’t allow them to treat him.

When the 108 emergency team reached the spot, Charandas told his the 108 staff to take Togadia to Chandrani Hospital and didn’t allow to treat him and then left the place. The staff ran preliminary tests like blood pressure and sugar on Togadia and found they were in control. However, the doctor who treated Togadia at the hospital (who the police claim was in touch with either Togadia or Charanda using driver’s mobile) claimed his blood pressure had dropped alarmingly.

The police is now trying to figure out the sequence of events from the time the phones were switched off. “Crime Branch has taken statements of the helpline 108 staff and Charandas and Nikul,” said JK Bhatt, Jt CP of Crime Branch.
