While various sangh functionaries and right wing academicians have been meeting Javadekar on a day to day basis, this was the first coordination committee meeting where the minister is learnt to have sat through the three hour discussion.

The education ideologues discuss the road map for education in the country. The New Education Policy (NEP) remained the focus of the discussion which would set the tune for future plans in the education sector. With the new policy coming after a gap of over a decade, the RSS has been pinning its hope on the policy to revamp the system to address their education concerns. Javadekar had on Tuesday extended the date for receiving inputs on the policy till August 16.

The house pitched its demands for Indianising the education system. “Indian education practices were discussed at length. The medium of teaching, teachers training, opening schools in rural areas were also some of the points of discussion in the meeting,” said a member who attended the meet.

The RSS insisted on promoting the Gurukul system in the NEP. Using Sanskrit as a medium of instruction and promoting and popularising Sanskrit was discussed in the meeting. The HRD ministry has been sitting on the recommendations of the Sanskrit Commission. “We insisted that the suggestions on the report should be implanted by the ministry,” added the member.

Besides languages, need to promote Indian sciences was also on the agenda. “We are not opposing the western and modern sciences being taught. But India also has a rich scientific tradition and history, which have remains unheard off,” said another member attending the meeting.

The RSS has also reiterated its demand for having an Indian Education Services on the lines of Indian Administrative Service.
