The ongoing war of words between Puducherry Chief Minister V Narayanasamy and Lieutenant Governor Kiran Bedi reached a new low on Wednesday with Narayanswamy daring Bedi in the Assembly to prove her charges of corruption and malpractices in postgraduate admissions in private medical colleges. Bedi, on the other hand, met President Pranab Mukherjee, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and Minister of State Jitendra Singh to apprise them of her achievements in the first year in office.

In a suo moto statement in the Puducherry Assembly, the CM said that the Centralised Admission Committee (CENTAC) has strictly adhered to the rules, including orders from the Supreme Court, in conducting counseling for admission to PG courses in private medical colleges for 2017-18. He said that for the first time, the government has ensured admission to 50 per cent seats in private and deemed universities under the state quota in a fair and transparent manner.

In Delhi, during her meeting with the President and the PM, Bedi presented the President with a Raj Nivas Workbook, along with data on her achievements. Bedi's meetings come two days after Narayanswamy met the President and complained about Bedi blocking development projects, saying that the government's proposal to waive cooperative loans to the farmers is awaiting her signature. In her list of achievements, Bedi said that the Raj Nivas approved 1,300 files, hosted 97 dignitaries, issued 3,934 entry passes, held 79 departmental meetings, and amassed over 1,16,72,880 followers on social media platforms like Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, etc.

Refuting the LG's allegations of corruption in the PG medical seat admission, Narayanasamy said that he's looking for an open apology if the allegations remain unproven. "Kiran Bedi should establish her allegations that malpractices were committed in finalising the list of students and that 71 seats were bartered away to private colleges. Whoever makes false allegations against the government, Chief Minister and ministers will face legal action," he said.
