The Election Commission of India on Saturday directed producers at Eros Now to stop streaming and remove all connected content to the web-series titled Modi: Journey Of A Common Man with immediate effect till further orders.

The controversial web series — directed by Umesh Shukla and starring Mahesh Thakur — was released on April 3. So far, five episodes have been released.

The EC's order comes in the wake of a report submitted last week by the Delhi Chief Electoral Officer, which said that the web series was streaming without any certification from the Media Certification and Monitoring Committee. It also asked for an FIR to be registered against Eros Now.

The restraining order signed by EC secretary Dilip K Verma referred to the order signed by the full Commission on April 10, which clearly stated that "any biopic material in the nature of biography/hagiography sub-serving the purposes of any political entity or any individual entity"… which has the potential to disturb the level playing field... should not be displayed during the MCC."
