Politics is for yogis not bhogis, nothing wrong with becoming a 'Hindu Rashtra': Yogi Adityanath to DD

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath gave his first televised interview to Doordarshan on Wednesday. During the interview, Adityanath was asked whether it was wrong for a 'Yogi' to enter politics. 

The UP CM stated that there was nothing wrong with being a Yogi. He said that Narendra Modi was no less than a Yogi. He stated that after three years in office, the PM had the trust of the people. He added that Modi was a ‘sanyasi’, and that his sacrifices for the nation as unprecedented.

He went on to say that politics was for ‘yogis, not bhogis’ (for those who sacrifice, not those who are greedy).  He added that he was not bothered by what people said and that his work would speak for him. He also stated that he had asked anti-Romeo squads not to harass couples, and that the UP government would work for all without discrimination. 

When asked about whether India was becoming a Hindu Rashtra, he said he did not care what people said. He stated there was nothing wrong with becoming a 'Hindu Rashtra', and that the Supreme Court had said Hindutva was a way of life.
