The Mumbai police are conducting combing operations to identity six men who were spotted paragliding last week close to Mumbai’s coast, putting agencies on alert.

The six men had been spotted 2 nautical miles from the Mumbai coast near JW Mariott Hotel in Juhu on January 13. The issue is worrying because in 2010, security agencies had alerted the police across the country that paragliders might be used by militants to launch an aerial attack. As of Nov 2015, paragliding is banned in Mumbai.

In 2010, the intelligence bureau had found that in 2012, the terrorist organisation Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) had procured 50 paragliders from Europe and were being trained in Pakistan to launch an attack. This information was corroborated by Syed Zabiuddin Ansari aka Abu Jundal when he was arrested in 2012.
