Government machinery pitches in to support Vidya Bharti in hosting a conference of senior secondary school principals. The four-day conference beginning from February 11 will be addressed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and human resource development minister Smriti Irani.

Chairmen of the Central Board of Secondary Education, National Council of Educational Research and Training and National Institute of Open Schooling will also participate in the conference. Principal of Sardar Patel Vidyalaya Anuradha Joshi is also likely to be one of the key speakers of the event.

While the seminar is an annual feature of Vidya Bharti, it is almost after a decade that it is being held in Delhi. Modi, who will address the principals on Friday, will be the second PM after Atal Bihari Vajpayee to participate in this meet. HRD minister Smriti Irani will also be holding a session with these principals.

"HRD ministers even during the Congress regimes have accepted our request and addressed the teachers. Previous HRD minister MM Pallam Raju also came for one of these conferences," said Shiv Kumar, senior functionary at the Vidya Bharti.

Vidya Bharti is the education wing of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh and has 12,363 schools operating in India. About 1,300 teachers of its affiliated schools will participate in the meet that will focus on holistic development of teachers to impart knowledge as well as inculcate value based education to the students.

"The Indian education system should be developed to cater to the indigenous need. Public schools are copying the western model, which do not cater to the Indian economic and social system," added Kumar.

Brushing aside allegations of attempting to saffronise the education system, Kumar added, "We are not talking about saffronising but promoting Indian culture."

While the outcome derived from the conference will be implemented and practiced in Vidya Bharti schools, it will also be making a submission to the HRD ministry.
