As the nation remembers the martyrs of Parliament attack on the 13th anniversary of the incident today, Prime Minister Narendra Modi along with other ministers paid floral tribute to all the brave hearts.

Earlier in the day, Prime Minister Modi took to twitter and saluted the martyrs saying, "We salute martyrs who lost their lives protecting the Temple of our Democracy on this day in 2001. Their sacrifices are etched in our memory." Vice President Hamid Ansari, Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh, External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj and Bharatiya Janata Party leader L.K. Advani also paid floral tributes to the martyrs.

"This challenge was not for that day only. Since long time the country is facing terror the problem of terrorism. Today's day makes us remember that danger has not gone," said Advani.

"The jawans sacrificed their lives for the security of the country. This country remembers those jawans on this day. I also pay my respect to the families of the martyrs," said Rajnath Singh. Former prime minister Manmohan Singh, along with Congress president Sonia Gandhi and Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan were also present to pay homage. "All these people were related to us. When the incident happened we were all in shock. The way all fought bravely was appreciable," said Mahajan.

"If even one terrorist would have got inside, that single thing gives us goose bumps. There are no words to appreciate what they did. We can feel what loss their family had to face. We still remember them because they worked with us," she added. It was on this day in 2001 that heavily armed-terrorists infiltrated the Parliament House and began firing their weapons during the time of Parliament session.

The martyrs included five Delhi Police personnel, a woman CRPF official, two Parliament watch and ward staff and a gardener. A journalist, who was injured, died later. All five terrorists were shot dead.
