Alleging that a demographic invasion to capture the country through a "bloodless revolution" was underway, the Shiv Sena called on Prime Minister Narendra Modi to warn Muslims about the need for family planning.
The Sena also said the growth in Muslim population, which comes to the fore in every census, would lead to an imbalance and sought that the RSS exert pressure on the government to make family planning mandatory for all communities. It blamed the central government for trying to take a secular stance like the previous Congress government.
An editorial on Monday in the Sena mouthpiece Saamna, which has party president Uddhav Thackeray as the editor and Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Raut as the executive editor, pointed to the growth in Muslim population in Assam and other northeastern states and also in Haryana, Goa, Kerala and Delhi, and claimed that minority appeasement had led to Hindus being pushed back in a "Hindu rashtra". Raut had earlier called for Muslims to be disenfranchised and these remarks had led to outrage.
"The Centre must think about how this increase in Muslim population will affect the linguistic, geographical and emotional balance and affect the integrity of the country. It is time for the prime minister to make it clear that Muslims must abide by the law of the land and accept family planning. The present prime minister must not repeat the mistake made by (the former) Manmohan (Singh)," the editorial said.
"Modi has promised to rush to the help of the Muslims even if they call out to him late at night. But, in return, will Muslims rush to the country's aid? The country needs compulsory family planning and population control," it added.
The Sena charged that there were designs to "purposely increase the population in the name of religion and take control of the country in a bloodless revolution", but, in a reference to statements by BJP MP Sakshi Maharaj and others, said Hindus increasing their population was not the solution.
It demanded that the RSS pressurise the Centre to make family planning compulsory for all and stressed that a uniform civil code was the only way to save the country.
