The Prime Minister Narendra Modi, will dedicate to the nation, the naval submarine INS Kalvari, at Mumbai on Thursday.
The INS Kalvari is a diesel-electric attack submarine that has been built for the Indian Navy by the Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Limited. The project has been undertaken with French collaboration. The submarine is named after the vicious tiger shark in a Rs 20,000 crore deal that was signed in October 2005.

Indigenous vessel
The INS Kalvari is a diesel-electric attack submarine that has been built for the Indian Navy by the Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Limited. It is the first of six such submarines that will be inducted into the Indian Navy, and represents a significant success for the “Make in India” initiative.
The project has been undertaken with French collaboration. Its design is based in the French Scorpene-class (by DCNS of France).
The name “Kalvari” translates to “Tiger Shark.” The new boat was built under the “Project 75” initiative to help bring more indigenous military building programs to India.
Kalvari can carry 18 torpedoes and travel 1,020 km underwater. The 66-metre submarine can dive up to a depth of 300 metres to elude enemy detection.
This Scorpene submarine is designed to operate in all theatres of war, including the tropics.
