PM Modi in Raebareli today, to inaugurate several projects in Sonia Gandhi's Lok Sabha constituency

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is today visiting Raebareli, his first trip to the Lok Sabha constituency of UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi where he will inaugurate several projects and also hold a public meeting.

He reached Lucknow early morning on Sunday from where he proceeded to the Gandhi family bastion. He will also visit Prayagraj to review preparations for the Kumbh Mela. Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya said, “Sunday’s visit to Allahabad will be a ‘ shankhnaad ’ (blowing of conch shell) or the 2019 Lok Sabha election.”

On Thursday, Uttar Pradesh CM Yogi Adityanath had visited Raebareli to oversee preparations for the visit. 

PM Modi will hold a public meeting in the Gandhi bastion and flag off the Humsafar Express, an official said. District officials said he would will lay the foundation stone and inaugurate projects worth Rs 1,100 crore during the visit.

Modi will visit the Modern Coach Factory in UP's Raebareli and also dedicate to the nation the 133-km Raebareli-Fatehpur-Banda section of National Highway 232.

National Highway 232 is an important link among Bundelkhand, Chitrakoot, Lucknow and Purvanchal areas in Uttar Pradesh.

The newly widened highway is set to reduce travel time from Banda to Raebareli to 2.5 hours from 7-8 hours.

"The 133 km project has been completed at a cost of about Rs 558 crore," the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways said in a statement.

It is an important link between the mining areas of Bundelkhand, pilgrimage centre Chitrakoot, the state capital Lucknow and Purvanchal. The highway sees heavy traffic carrying construction material. 

The highway is two-laned with paved shoulder, and includes a 4-laned stretch of 2 km in the urban part of Banda city. There are two 2 bypasses -- a 11 km one for the city of Fatehpur and 5 km one for Lalganj, Raebareli. There are also two Rail-Over-Bridges (ROB) at Lalganj and Fatehpur.
