There will be a big change in the day to day life of the UPites from Sunday when the Yogi Adityanath government's ban on the use of plastic and polythene bags comes into effect.

Though the BJP government is yet to bring an ordinance or promulgate a law like the Maharashtra government, the Chief Secretary Dr Anoop Chandra Pandey made it clear that the ban would be enforced from July 15.

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has already issued an appeal to the people to support his government on the ban. "To protect the environment, we have to launch a big movement for plastic-free state," he had said while announcing on ban on July 6.

The state government is drafting an ordinance to make the ban legal. "A fine of Rs 10,000 and up to Rs 1 lakh is being debated to impose on violators," said a senior official in the CM's Secretariat.

The official said that the government has worked out a module to implement the ban in a phased manner. From Sunday, the polythene carrybags will be disallowed and then from August 1 plastic and thermocol cups, glasses, plates etc would be banned.
