Pensioners return empty handed after Rs 1.20 crore go missing from Burdwan post office

The cash overseer of Burdwan Head Post Office was in for a shock on Friday morning when he realised that somebody broke open a vault and took around Rs 1.20 crore that has been operated by the postal department at the Treasury Building of the Burdwan Court complex .

The missing cash was deposited on Thursday for pension distribution.

"There are vaults in the complex that are operated by various departments. Treasury department has nothing to do with it. We are yet to get a formal complaint from the postal department," District Magistrate Anurag Srivastav said.

Following the incident, pensioners had to return empty handed as the post offices were devoid of cash.

The police is still investigating the case.
