All opposition parties including the Congress criticised the last full Budget of the Modi government on Thursday describing it as nothing but yet another "jumla" failing to answer the looming crisis in any of the sectors.

In a cohesive response, former finance minister P Chidambaram described the Budget as a big let-down by the BJP government. In a rebuff to the healthcare scheme, which was described by Finance Minister Arun Jaitley as the biggest scheme in the world, Chidambaram said the government has not kept provision of money to sustain the lofty scheme.

Questioning the fiscal prudence, Chidambaram said, "Against a BE fiscal deficit target for 2017-18 of 3.2%, the final number will be 3.5%… Similarly, for 2018-19, against a target of 3.0%, FM has pegged it at 3.2%. Both these slippages will have serious consequences and raise grave doubts about India's commitment to fiscal consolidation."

Former prime minister Manmohan Singh said the growth that government mentioned is not possible to achieve. "The government promise to double the income of farmers by 2022 is not possible unless the agriculture grows at 12%," he said.

Saying the Budget was not people-friendly, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said, "FM said nothing about unemployment. Medium and Small scale sectors are still suffering."

Calling the Budget "Jumlanomics", CPI(M) leader Sitaram Yechury said the fraud of MSP is only for kharif because of elections.

Congress president Rahul Gandhi took to twitter to debunk the Budget. "4 years gone; still promising FARMERS a fair price. 4 years gone; FANCY SCHEMES, with NO matching budgets. 4 years gone; no JOBS for our YOUTH. Thankfully, only 1 more year to go."
