The Border Security Force (BSF) and Pakistan Rangers vowed to maintain peace and tranquillity on the International Border (IB) on Monday.

The decision to maintain peace came after the BSF and Pakistan Rangers held a sector commander level meeting at Border Outpost Octroi at Suchetgarh area on the IB in the Jammu division on Monday.

"The meeting took place in a conducive atmosphere with prime focus to solve petty matters and to maintain peace and tranquillity on border," a BSF spokesman said at Jammu Frontier.

The decision assumes significance as farmers on both sides will be busy in their fields and the camaraderie will help them carry out their work without any hassles.

"Today's meeting is likely to bring hassle-free environment, particularly for border area farmers on both sides. Commanders on both sides agreed to keep the talks going at every level to develop confidence between two border guarding forces," said the spokesman.

The meeting comes a day after Pakistan Prime Minister in his first address to nation said that he wanted the best relationship with all his neighbours and normalise ties to bring about lasting peace.

The meeting also comes at a time when reports suggest that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has sent a letter to his newly-elected Pakistani counterpart Imran Khan.

Even as Pakistan Rangers and BSF has vowed to maintain peace on IB, there has been renewed efforts to push in terrorists from Pakistan Occupied Kashmir into Jammu and Kashmir from the Line of Control (LoC).

The Indian Army has foiled five infiltration bids on the LoC in since August 7. Three terrorists were killed by Army while infiltrating in Tangdhar sector on Saturday. On Independence Day, a soldier was injured when Pakistan army tried to push in a group of heavily armed intruders into J&K from the LoC in Nowshera sector of Rajouri district in Jammu.

An army soldier was killed after security forces foiled a major infiltration bid along the LoC in the Tangdhar sector of Kupwara district on August 13. On August 7, four soldiers including a gallantry award winning Major were killed in a gun battle with highly entrenched infiltrators at Gurez. Two infiltrators were also killed in the operation.
