Padmaavat Row: SIT set to probe schoolbus attack

With demands for action after Karni Sena members stoned a schoolbus with small children inside, the Gurugram police have detained Karni Sena leader Thakur Kushalpal in connection with incidents of violence across the city. The move comes a day after the national secretary of the Karni Sena Suraj Pal Amu was arrested on charges of violence while protesting the release of ‘Padmaavat.’

Police also set up a SIT (Special Investigation Team) to probe the attack on the school bus which took place in Gurugram on Wednesday. The SIT will will investigate under the direct supervision of the DCP South Ashok Bakshi,
Gurugram and the team, officers claimed, will make efforts to identify the remaining hooligans.

In a press statement, Gurugram Police Public Relations Officer Ravinder had said on Friday that seven cases have been registered in various police stations of Gurugram so far. “During the course of investigation, we have
arrested 24 miscreants who were involved in violent incidents which occurred at different places. All accused have been sent to judicial custody. Besides 14 persons were detained under section 107/ 151 CrPC as a preventive
measure. Strenuous efforts are being to identify the remaining hooligans who were involved in vandalism,” the officer said, asserting that the situation in Gurugram is peaceful and under control.

Earlier, Amu had been detained on Thursday for questioning and was placed under arrest on Friday morning on charges of breaching peace in the city, senior police officers said, adding that he has been sent to a four-day
judicial custody. Following investigations, Kushalpal was also detained, they said.

Meanwhile, a message had gone viral on social media that five Muslim youths had been detained for the attack on the schoolbus. The police moved quickly to put these rumours to rest “It is to bring it to your kind notice that no member from the Muslim community has been detained/arrested by Gurugram police in connection with Bhondsi violence or anywhere else in Gurugram,” Kumar said.
