Former Chief Justice of India (CJI) P Sathasivam today took oath as the Governor of Kerala, succeeding former Delhi chief minister Sheila Dikshit who had resigned from the post last month.

P Sathasivam had said on Thursday that his appointment will be an advantage for the state, as he will be able to utilize his 19 years of experience as a judge for the people of Kerala.

"I demitted my office on April 26th, and I had decided not to accept any work-related proposals. In fact, I had already settled in my native place, but, this is an opportunity to utilize my 19 years of experience as a judge," said Justice Sathasivam.

"I hope to develop good relations between the state and the Centre. The government might have thought that they can utilize my service in a better way by appointing me. It is an advantage for the state. I am not a politician and I am not supporting any political party and I can utilize my rich experience for the people of Kerala," he added.

The Congress had questioned the government's move to appoint Justice Sathasivam as the Kerala Governor, wondering if the Centre was pleased with his judgment in the case against BJP president Amit Shah.
