Over 500 different varieties of fruits were put on display during a two-day fruit show here in Tamil Nadu’s Nilgiri district.

The 52nd edition of the fruit show was organised at Sim's park in Coonoor town of the district from May 22-23.

The displayed variety of fruits included over 40 types of citrus fruits like oranges and sweet limes, around 50 varieties of bananas and 45 types of peaches.

Mangoes, weighing a kilogram a piece, were a special attraction.

Other attractions of this fruit show included gigantic fruit sculptures such as a pineapple made of 1,500 pineapples and a sweet lime, which consisted of 2,500 specimens of sweet limes.

"Today, we are organising the 52nd fruit show at Sim's park in Connoor. For this, we have made special arrangements, like at the entrance a huge arch of 12 feet with a variety of fruits has been made. Inside the garden, the main attraction is a 12 feet high pineapple made with 1000 pineapple," said Mani, additional director, Horticulture.

Horticulture stalls displayed a large collection of produce, implements and resources of the Nilgiri hills.

The event enabled many of the curious visitors to learn about a host of varieties of fruits, which they witnessed for the first time.

"I am from Bombay (Mumbai) and this is very unique for us. We have not seen any kind of a fruit show in Bombay so this is really unique for us, and especially for the kids, this is a fantastic exposure. So we are showing them different fruits, some fruits, which we have not seen in India. So all those kinds of fruits and the way they have been decorated is so aesthetic as well," said Sowmiya, one of the tourists.
