Over 3,000 complaints filed for election linked offences in Tamil Nadu: Election Commission

The Election Commission has filed as many as 3,793 complaints with police for offences related to the April 24 Lok Sabha elections in Tamil Nadu, Chief Electoral Officer, Praveen Kumar said here today.

The total number of cases recorded in Tamil Nadu was 2,08,845 while the total complaints registered were 3,793, he said in a statement here. A total of 262 cases were registered for misusing vehicles and 20 for violating loudspeaker norms, he said.

As many as 81 illegal meetings were identified and cases were registered while 90 cases were filed for gratification of electors, he said. Tamil Nadu registered 73.67 per cent polling in the April 24 polls, while Puducherry recorded 83 per cent.
