Mayawati's 'Man Friday' S C Mishra's son Kapil and her brother Anand Kumar created a company that received crores despite virtually no business. Concluding part of the series.

Rajya Sabha MP and Mayawati's trusted lieutenant Satish Chandra Mishra has played a role in the rise of Anand Kumar's fortunes, according to investigations.

In 2007, when Mayawati assumed power for the fourth time as Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister, her brother Anand Kumar along with Mishra's son Kapil Mishra created a company called Dia Realtors Pvt Ltd. Kapil Mishra used his father's Lucknow address (17/6, Windsor Place) as his address in records submitted to the Registrar of Companies (RoC).

Till 2014-15, the company had virtually no business, negligible income and expenses of just a few lakhs. Yet, the company's cash reserves and bank balances jumped to almost Rs 95 crore during this time. The most glaring jump came between 2009 to 2011 when its bank balance increased from Rs 5 lakh to almost Rs 75 crore, reveal investigations by DNA.

The fact that the company was not all clean also emerges from the constant change of registered addresses during this period. It moved from a building in Mumbai's Malad to an address in Fort, then to Andheri (West) in 2010 before again shifting base to Goregaon (East) the next year. In 2013, the company shifted to New Delhi. There is little doubt that this company was built to befuddle investigators if a finger of suspicion was ever raised.

Not just Dia Realtors, its complex web of ghost shareholding companies also kept changing their coordinates. In 2008-09, four unknown companies bought stakes in Dia Realtors. This was when Dia Realtor's cash and bank balances jumped to almost Rs 25 crore from a mere Rs 5 lakh.

In 2009-10, six new companies bought stakes while two out of the four existing companies left. This exit of two companies and the resultant transfer of shares were not shown by Dia Realtors in their annual report, which again was a violation of the Company's Act.

The same year, the cash and bank balances jumped to almost Rs 72 crore. One of the several companies through which money was routed through Dia Realtors was Adept Realcon. This company was owned by none other than Kumar and his wife Vichiter Lata, according to the documents.

In fact, investigators believe that all the companies through which money was funnelled to Dia Realtors were in some way connected to Kumar through a complex net of cross shareholdings. The addresses of most of these companies were also frequently changed.

For instance, one shareholder, Laser Financial & Project Consultants Pvt Ltd, bought shares while it was based in Mumbai's Versova locality, but later shifted to Goregaon, documents show. Similarly, Adept Realcon moved from Rajendra Place to Karol Bagh in the national Capital. Another shareholder named Sunshine Heights Pvt Ltd moved from Jhandewalan's cycle market to a building located on Babar Road. Almost every company that bought stakes in Dia Realtors followed this pattern.

However, one of the most interesting events relating to Dia Realtors relates to 2010, the year when massive irregularities were recorded in the sale of plots in Greater Noida to builders by the Mayawati government.

In that year, Diksha Windsor Computers Pvt Ltd (a company owned by Kumar which had shown suspicious transactions with Supertech and Today Homes), bought out Kapil Mishra's stake in the company. Mishra held 42,000 shares in the company, and it is not known how much money he received for selling his stake.

This was the same company that had been allegedly 'advancing' money to Supertech. Investigators are trying to piece together the sequence of transactions that could establish a money trail between builders, the Mishras, Anand Kumar and Mayawati. Also the properties owned by Kumar and his wife Vichiter Lata are on the radar of the CBI.

Efforts to contact Anand Kumar and Kapil Mishra proved futile.
