Nursing student at AIIMS commits suicide

A 20-year-old nursing student of AIIMS allegedly committed suicide by hanging herself from the ceiling fan of her hostel room, police said on Monday.

Police said Pallavi Grover, a BSc 3rd year student, was apparently after she failed in one of her practical papers.

She was also reportedly troubled over her relations with the hostel warden and other staffers.

"Her body was found around 10 PM yesterday. A suicide note has also been found," said a senior official at AIIMS.

Grover had returned from her home in Mayapuri in Delhi yesterday night. Other friends in the hostel went to check on her after receiving a call from her mother, who said she was unable to reach her daughter on phone despite repeated attempts, and found her hanging from the ceiling fan of her hostel room, said a police official.

A group of Grover's friends staged a protest outside the director's bungalow this morning.

The hospital official said the warden in charge of the hostel has been removed from duty.
