According to officials, separate bus lanes across all arterial roads in the city will be marked by December 25 and those obstructing movement of buses in these lanes will be penalised.
In further development on its ambitious odd-even car rule, the AAP government on Thursday said an additional 6,000 buses will be deployed to enhance public transport from January 1. That aside, frequency of metro trains will be increased more autos will be allowed to ply on the roads, the government said.
According to officials, separate bus lanes across all arterial roads in the city will be marked by December 25 and those obstructing movement of buses in these lanes will be penalised.
PWD Minister Satyendar Jain said the Delhi government has decided to slap fine of Rs 5,000 against officials concerned including park in-charges if leaves and garbage are burned in their areas --a major source of air pollution-- as per the National Green Tribunal's order.
The Delhi government is also in talks with the Railways for improving frequency of trains running between Delhi and nearby cities of NCR, Jain said.
The decisions were taken after a meeting was attended by all Delhi ministers, top officials of Traffic Police and representatives of all departments and agencies concerned.
"We will run 6,000 buses as per cluster system. The drivers will be hired by the bus owners. DTC will arrange for conductors and decide the route," Delhi Transport Minister Gopal Rai, said.
Rai said rules are being relaxed to allow more autos on the road.
He added that an auto driver can give his vehicle to someone else for driving under the new rules. As per existing rules, only permit holder of a specific auto can ply the vehicle.
"We will launch the first stage of Puchho app tomorrow which will help people hire autos for commuting in case they are covered under the odd-even scheme," he said
He also said that after the launch of the app, commuters will be able to book autorickshaws using their smartphones. Delhiites should also check their pollution control certificates before January 1, the minister said.
According to the government, there are 100 major construction projects being carried out across the national capital, also a contributor to pollution.
Contractors will have to install boards indicating construction site as per rules.
