The All India Radio on Friday launched an application and a website for its Balochi service through which the programmes can be accessed from all parts of the country with a click of a button.

dna had earlier reported about the plan and the decision to fast track the launch of the app and the website to bolster the service, post Prime Minister Narendra Modi's Independence day speech where he had put a special emphasis on Balochistan and its people.

According to officials, the website will offer live streaming of the 42-year-old Balochi service programmes, including news and other entertainment programmes, which even the remote India Baloch population can listen to. The External Services Division of All India Radio already broadcasts daily in 57 transmissions covering over 108 countries in 27 languages. Out of these, live streaming of 12 channels are already in place.

"The move will also ensure a better feedback mechanism from where it is currently broadcast," a senior official said.

Currently, service already broadcasts a daily, hour-long programme between 8.30pm and 9.30pm, that includes a news bulletin, review of the Indian press, Balochi music, talks on Indian culture and heritage and status of women in the country.

With the website and the application in place, the public broadcaster is also planning to increase the duration of the programme and strengthen it.

"As we are expecting more hits now, we are also planning to increase the duration of the programme and add more varieties to it. While we are planning to hire more people, there is a dearth of Balochi-speaking population here," an official said.

Currently, the Baluchi service comprises a team of just four translators cum announcers, who have been running the show for nearly a decade.

AIR officials confirmed they would soon be starting a Facebook page and whatsapp-based services for the channel to ensure better feedback about its programmes.
