Just a month after a second complainant had bared her harrowing ordeal of alleged sexual harassment by former Teri chief RK Pachauri, a third woman has now come forward detailing how Pachauri allegedly harassed her sexually when she was working as his secretary back in 2008.

The third complainant, a European, was 19 when she working as Pachauri’s secretary. According to the third complainant’s lawyer, she had contacted advocate Vrinda Grover in Feb 2015 to share her experience. She learnt that an FIR was filed against Pachauri for allegedly harassing a junior researcher who worked directly under him. In her two-page letter, the woman has detailed how Pachauri’s behaviour during office hours was unprofessional, uncomfortable and bordering on constant sexual advances. She has also said that patriarch often touched her inappropriately in office, “From the beginning Pachauri would put his hands on my waist repeated times, he would hug me longer than felt comfortable, kissed me on the cheek and inquired about my private life. I started feeling insecure about his motives for hiring me, and felt extremely uncomfortable being around him,” the woman’s statement read.

It added, “He would call me during non-working hours and holidays to ask me to come to his office and when arriving it became evident that he had no specific task for me. Pachauri would indulge in frivolous talk and try to get close to me. When nobody else was in the office, I remember feeling very wary of the fact that we were alone in the building, so I would lie and say that I have some friends waiting for me.”

According to the woman’s statement, the tipping point came when Pachauri asked her to join him at his summer house outside Delhi for spending time alone. “It would have just been him and me there, since he made it very clear that his wife was out of town. At this point, I felt genuinely scared of what his motives for inviting me over were, and I decided to speak out and set a firm limit. I told him that he needed to behave more professionally and that I wanted us to have no other contact than during office hours. He didn’t take this very well, it became clear to me that it was not going to work.”

After resisting Pachauri’s advances, the woman sought a transfer which she was granted but Pachauri continued to call her to his office. Soon after she informed him she did not want to work with him, Pachauri terminated her one-year contract after just four months of work. dna sent a text message to Pachauri’s lawyer for comment but there was no reply.
