Lok Janshakti Party (LJP) chief and Union Food and Consumer Affairs Minister Ram Vilas Paswan on Friday refuted the reports of joining the Rashtriya Janata Dal-led grand alliance. His comments came soon after his son Chirag Paswan hinted at joining the RJD led allliance.

Chirag in an interview had said that he shares similar vision to that of Tejashwi Yadav and hinted at an alliance with RJD. However, his father has categorically denied any possible truck with RJD. Is this merely a pressure tactics or a a genuine rift within LJP is what everyone in political circles are wandering.

The rumours of Ramvilas Paswan joining the grand alliance came after his son-in-law and Dalit Sena President Anil Kumar Sadhu joined the RJD in March this year. Earlier, a senior RJD leader Raghuvansh Prasad Singh had sent ripples by claiming that Paswan was in touch with their leaders and that he would join the RJD-led opposition alliance before the Lok Sabha polls. However, Paswan had rubbished the claims.

The National Democratic Alliance (NDA) in Bihar seems to be in troubled waters with Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Janata Dal (United) leaders regularly issuing contradictory statements and rebuts over seat-sharing equation for 2019 Lok Sabha elections. In addition, there has been an on-going tussle over the ‘face’ of the alliance.

Sources said none of the parties wanted to play second fiddle in the state, and with smaller allies such as Lok Janashakti Party (LJP) and Rashtriya Lok Samata Party (RLSP) refusing to compromise on numbers, bigger parties were indulging in pressure tactics before the formal rounds of talks over the 40 Lok Sabha seats in the state. Senior BJP leaders including former union minister Syed Shahnawaz Hussain have ruled out having any differences saying, “The NDA is strong in Bihar.” On the other ha nd, JD(U) politicos are making noise over claims of ‘big-brother’ status and seats for the 2019 general election.
