All government-run schools and some of the private schools up to Class 8 will remain closed in Ghaziabad and Noida for the next three days and reopen on January 23 in view of the intense cold conditions in the region.
Ghaziabad District Magistrate Vimal Kumar Sharma said that an order in this regard has been passed covering all government and aided schools. The Basic Shiksha Adhikari (BSA) has been instructed to ensure compliance with the order as children are susceptible to being taken ill in the cold wave, he added.
An advisory has also been issued to private and public schools' management to go for a "three-day closure" as a precautionary move. These institutions are free to take the decision in this regard, Sharma added.
ADM (administration) of Gautam Budh Nagar, Chandra Shekhar said, "Management of schools of all the boards in Noida and Greater Noida have been directed to close the schools due to intense cold for two days."
A western disturbance weather system that passed over Jammu and Kashmir earlier last week brought along cold northwesterly winds with its passage and that has caused temperatures to dip across the northern belt, meteorologists said. Earlier, in December, the western disturbances were feeble and as a result the northern plains did not see chilly conditions. The chilly conditions also caused the wind speed to rise to 10-15km/hour.
