A 23-year-old woman was shot dead at Shatabdi Rail Vihar residential society in Sector 62 of Noida on Wednesday morning. The woman identified as Anjali Rathour was working as a trainee engineer with a mobile manufacturing company in Sector 64 of Noida.
Based on the family's claims, the police are zeroing in on one of her male friends as a suspect.
Anjali hailed from Jagadhri near Yamuna Nagar in Haryana.She graduated from Lovely Professional University in Jalandhar in 2016.
The incident took place at 6.34 am in the parking lot of the society. The CCTV camera installed near the elevators captured the scene, but the man has not been identified due to the hazy footage.
"We are probing the matter from all angles. There is 99.99 per cent chance that the deceased's male friend had killed her. In the footage, the shooter's picture is not clear but other electronic evidences are going against him. We have formed teams and raids are being conducted to nab him," Love Kumar, senior superintendent of police, Gautam Budh Nagar, told DNA.
The police said Rathour was identified by her roommate lying in a pool of blood. "Her roommate was leaving for coaching classes. As she came downstairs, she noticed people gathered on the ground floor. She raised an alarm and rushed to third-floor apartment and alerted four other roommates about the incident. They rushed her to the nearby Fortis hospital, where doctors declared her brought dead ," a senior police officer said.
The police said that her family alleged she was killed by a friend, who hails from Etawah in Uttar Pradesh.
"He had studied with her at the university and Rathour's phone records showed a call from him. The friend had called her at 6.05am, after which she came down from her apartment," the officer added.
