With the Union Cabinet taking a decision to re-promulgate the land Acquisition Ordinance, the Trinamool Congress on Saturday said the party stands with the farmers and would not support any forceful acquisition of land.

"Trinamool is 100 per cent with farmers. Our views on land have been the most transparent and consistent. No forceful acquisition of land. Consent of farmers must be taken," TMC leader in the Rajya Sabha Derek O Brien said in a statement.

The Union Cabinet while deciding to re-promulgate the controversial ordinance today noted that it was necessary for maintaining continuity and providing a framework to compensate people whose land was acquired. Once approved by President Pranab Mukherjee, the ordinance will be promulgated for the third time.
